What this site collects. Umami counts visits without cookies; Google Analytics and Clarity load only if you accept. Plus hosting, search, links and email.
Crawlfolio is published by Anurag Kumar in India. This page lists everything the site collects, who handles it and how to say no.
The short version: there are no accounts, comments, forms or newsletter here. Umami counts visits without cookies. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity load only if you click Accept on the cookie banner, and never before you choose. Search runs in your browser. Cloudflare hosts the site and forwards email sent to this site’s addresses.
What this site collects #
This site is a set of static pages. There’s no sign-up, login, comment box, contact form or newsletter sign-up, so there’s nowhere on the site to enter personal details.
- The cost calculator on some pages works out prices in your browser. The number you type isn’t sent anywhere.
- Fonts and images load from this site itself, not from a font service or an image CDN.
- Outside scripts are limited to the analytics described below: Umami on every page, and Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity only after you accept them.
Visit counts with Umami #
Every page loads a small script from Umami Cloud, served from Umami’s own servers. It counts page views, plus clicks on affiliate and sponsored buttons, including the name of the vendor each button points to. It only counts visits on crawlfolio.com, never on preview copies or someone’s local copy of the site.
Umami’s FAQ says its tracker does not use cookies. It lists what Umami collects: page views, referrer URLs, browsers, operating systems, device types and approximate location. Umami’s own handling of that data is covered by its privacy policy.
A content blocker that blocks third-party scripts, or turning JavaScript off, stops it. Articles read fine without JavaScript.
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, only with your consent #
These two tools load only after you click Accept on the cookie banner at the bottom of the page. Before you choose, and after you click Reject, neither one loads. If no banner appears, neither tool is switched on for this site.
- Google Analytics 4 measures visits across pages. Google’s
cookie list says it sets two first-party
cookies,
_gaand_ga_<container-id>, each kept for 2 years by default. When it loads, this site tells Google that you agreed to analytics storage only: the ad storage, ad user data and ad personalization signals stay set to “denied”. How Google handles the data is in the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services. - Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used, including clicks, scrolling and mouse
movement. When it loads, this site uses Clarity’s
consent API
to grant analytics storage and deny ad storage. Microsoft’s
Clarity cookie list
names its first-party cookies,
_clckand_clsk, and the third-party cookies it can set on Microsoft domains. How Microsoft handles the data is in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Like Umami, both only run on crawlfolio.com, never on preview copies.
Changing your cookie choice #
Your Accept or Reject is saved in your browser’s local storage on this site, under the name
net-consent-v1. It isn’t a cookie and it isn’t sent to me or anyone else.
To change it, use the Cookie settings button at the bottom of any page. It reopens the banner.
If you switch from Accept to Reject, the page tells Google Analytics that consent is withdrawn, asks
Clarity to erase its cookies, and deletes the _ga, _ga_…, _clck and _clsk cookies this site’s
domain holds. Cookies that Microsoft set on its own domains can only be cleared in your browser.
Clearing this site’s data in your browser also resets the choice, and the banner shows again.
Search #
The search page uses Pagefind. Your browser downloads parts of a search index from this site and runs the search on your device. No search service is involved, and your search words aren’t sent to one.
One exception: if you open a search link with the words in the address, such as
/search/?q=proxies, that address reaches the host like any other page address. Typing in the
search box doesn’t change the address.
Affiliate and sponsored links #
No article here has an affiliate link or a sponsored placement yet. When they appear, the disclosure explains how each one is marked.
Affiliate links will go through a /go/ address on this site. That address is a plain redirect: the
host sends your browser on to the vendor’s site, and this site sets no cookie along the way. Umami
counts the click as described above.
Once you land on the vendor’s site, its own privacy policy applies. The vendor, or the affiliate network it uses, may set cookies there to credit this site for the referral. That happens on their site, under their policy, not this one.
Hosting #
Cloudflare hosts this site. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives each request your browser makes, including your IP address, your browser’s user agent and the page you asked for. How Cloudflare handles that data is set out in Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
I don’t add any request logging of my own on top of that.
Cookies #
This site’s own pages set no cookies. The only things that can set cookies here are:
- Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, only after you click Accept (see above).
- Cloudflare’s security features. Cloudflare can add a cookie when one of its protections runs,
such as
__cf_bmfor bot detection orcf_clearanceafter you pass a challenge. Cloudflare’s cookie documentation describes them as strictly necessary for the service, and says the__cf_bmcookie does not correspond to any user ID.
Umami sets none.
Your choices #
- Reject the trackers. Click Reject on the banner, or Reject after Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. Umami still counts the visit, without cookies.
- Block scripts. A content blocker or turning JavaScript off stops every analytics script. Every article stays readable.
- Skip the redirect. You don’t have to use a
/go/link. You can go to a vendor’s site directly instead. - Control cookies in your browser. Your browser settings let you block or clear cookies, including the ones vendor sites set.
